A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a member-led group organized around a shared area of professional interest within behavior analysis. SIGs provide opportunities for focused discussion, collaboration, and continuing education related to that topic area.

Meeting frequency is determined by the SIG leader.

Based on AzABA’s broader mission to support collaboration, education, and interdisciplinary networking, SIGs serve to:

• Promote focused professional discussion

• Provide peer networking and mentorship

• Share emerging research and applied practices

• Build communities around specialized clinical or professional topics

This aligns with AzABA’s role as a scientific and professional reference group for behavior analysts.

To join a SIG, log in to your member profile and select your desired SIG on the "Committee and SIG participation" question. This will add you to the email list for the SIG and grant access to SIG member only events.

SIG members do not need to re-enroll each year. They will automatically be enrolled in chosen SIGs upon membership renewal.

Yes, you do need to be a member of AzABA to join a SIG and attend free CEU events and SIG meetings. Click here to join AzABA.

Non-members may attend CEU events, as designated by the SIG leader, for a small fee.

Yes, members may submit a proposal to the AzABA President-Elect to develop a new SIG. The proposal must include:

• SIG title

• SIG leaders

• Schedule or meeting frequency

• Purpose/mission

• Initial proposed goals/targets

• Desired outcomes of SIG

• Petition Signatures (minimum of 10 active Full Member signatures required)

• Completion of SIG Startup Self-Assessment

• Completion of Format of SIG questions

The President-Elect will review and either follow up with feedback or questions or submit to the Board of Directors for approval. Proposals will be voted on at the bi-monthly board meetings.

Upon approval, the SIG leader will receive training and invitation to monthly group leader meetings.

Committees are standing or working groups that support the governance, operations, and strategic initiatives of the association (e.g., ethics, marketing, public policy).

The main distinction between SIGs and Committees is that SIGs are designed for the education, networking and advancement of members while Committees are designed to the support operational work for the advancement of AzABA as an organization.

Committees are open to active, Full or Affiliate, members of AzABA. Contact the AzABA admin team to be connected to the committee chair.

Most committees meet monthly but frequency is determined by the committee chair. The time commitment outside of meeting times varies based on the committee. Additional information about the committee and roles can be discussed with the committee chair.

Members may serve on more than one committee.

Committee chairs have a clear understanding of the function of the committee and how it engages with the board of directors. This knowledge comes from attendance at committee meetings and completion of assigned tasks outside of the designated meeting time.

Since committees work closely with the board, it is advantageous for committee chairs or co-chairs to hold a board positions, though it is not required per the association bylaws.

Though anyone may join a committee, chairs often invite members who frequently engage in AzABA SIGs and other events to join their committee.

Yes, as a SIG or committee member, you have access to a network of professionals with shared interests.

Additionally, SIG leaders and committee chairs participate in monthly group meetings for training and collaboration with a member of the AzABA board. Involvement in committees and SIGs is one of the first steps on pathway to leadership within AzABA.
