Presenters: Jessica Belokas (Moderator), Dr. Diana Davis-Wilson (panelist), Jamilah Amirah (panelist), Luis Morales (panelist), and Dr. Ashley Sanchez (panelist).

Summary:

As the field of Behavior Analysis continues to evolve, issues surrounding equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are increasingly intertwined with political and professional dynamics. This panel will explore how the AzABA EDI Committee can continue to push forward with its mission of fostering inclusivity, despite external pressures, controversial political stances, and legislative shifts in majority. Panelists will discuss the complexities surrounding recent shifts in accreditation policies, particularly those affecting the BACB, and how to navigate these challenges while remaining committed to the values of EDI.

Drawing from personal experience and leadership insights, panelists will examine how to transcend political divides and engage with these sensitive issues in a way that fosters constructive dialogue and broad community involvement. Through education, collaboration, and strategic outreach, the EDI Committee aims to lead by example and build a more inclusive and supportive community for all members.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will describe the intersection of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and political dynamics, and identify key political influences and professional challenges that impact the integration of EDI principles within the field of Behavior Analysis.

  2. Participants will be able to describe and apply strategies to engage behavior analysts and stakeholders in EDI efforts, ensuring inclusivity and constructive dialogue, even in the face of differing political opinions.

  3. Participants will be able to explain how political and social issues impact EDI initiatives and why these efforts are crucial in ensuring behavior analysis remains an inclusive and ethical profession.
